TAKA DIVE has been operating for more than 18 years, being the original dive operation to do trips to the Cod Hole & Coral Sea. In its eighteen years of operation, TAKA DIVE has a reputation for exceeding the standards of hospitality and professionalism. Our motto is “The Friendly Alternative”, where our crew are there to please. This is expressed in our comments forms and our high percentage of repeat customers.

TAKA DIVE SHOP is a retail shop that specialises in basic dive gear, especially bits & pieces you may need for your trip. The TAKA DIVE SHOP also offers all passengers mementos of their journey as well as discounted local tours and advise. Please ask our shop staff for help if you need anything before departure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dives sites like? Where do we go?

TAKA DIVE provides the diver with an experience of a life time, enjoying the best of the Great Barrier Reef. Both trips operate all year around.

Tuesday Departures- Cod Hole & Northern Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef is a 2300 km of living coral, one of the natural wonders of the world. The Ribbon Reefs extend southwards from Lizard Island and include the famous “Cod Hole”. Dive with Giant Potato Cod and view a huge variety of marine species. The Great Barrier Reef offers a kaleidoscope of colour and marine life all year round whilst enjoying the warm tropical waters. Visibility can be 15 to 30 metres plus! The Great Barrier Reef is relatively shallow diving with an average maximum depth of around 20-35 metres.

Friday Departures- Cod Hole & Coral Sea
The Coral Sea lies to the east of the Great Barrier Reef and has crystal clear waters with spectacular diving. The remote Osprey Reef is rarely visited by dive vessels and is by far one of the best dive sites for shark feeding action, large pelagics, drift diving and wall drop off’s to 1000 metres. Visibility up to 50 metres! The Coral Sea represents deeper dive sites with some walls dropping down to 30-1000+ metres. However your dive depths will be within your certification allowances and dive tables. We highly recommend that you hire a computer which will show you the no-decompression limits and provide safer and more flexible dive plan.

Note:
Provisions for photographic equipment include freshwater buckets, dry area & power outlets for recharging batteries (voltage 240) in all cabins. 110 voltage transformers are available onboard.

WHAT ARE "TAKA's" SPECIAL FEATURES?

Bulbous bow
The bulbous bow allows for a finer entry into the water, and keeps the nose of the vessel level, which in turn stabilizes the entire hull.

Hull Stability
The extra wide beam allows more room inside the vessel, and this coupled with the ballast tank arrangement prevent rolling while on anchor

MTU V12 main engine
We have more power than is needed, so we are able to run at reduced revs, keeping the noise levels down and still maintaining good speed.

Bow and Stern Thrusters
These mean we can move away from a dive site in an emergency while divers are still in the water with no danger from the propeller

Entertainment System
Plasma screens, Denon Hi Fi equipment, In-house movies, PS2, Intercoms-it's all there. The entire boat is also wired with Cat 6 computer cable for any future gizmos that come out.

Room, Room, and more Room
With only 30 passengers, space is not an issue. Plenty of places to be, or to hide, the choice is yours!
